Review
This restaurant has an incredible upscale southwest Mediterranean atmosphere featuring beautiful unique décor but yet casual enough for brown paper tablecloths. One of their best features is their wood fired oven, and the pizzas on the menu are so good it is hard to decide which ones to choose. Pizza prices range from 10 dollars to 14 dollars.
The menu is varied, a great selection of poultry, seafood and steaks. Prices are moderate and appropriate to the service offered. One thing I was a bit surprised of was the fact the waiter never brought us any water. The glasses were set, ready to be filled, but it was only until we asked that the waiter served us water.
From split bone-in rib eye steaks, to their cilantro ranch house dressing, which I loved, and avocado chicken served with wild rice and a side of vegetables that were not very good, they tasted like frozen. I was disappointed but the dessert selection made me forget all about it. The pecan pie was accompanied by caramel coated vanilla ice cream.
Overall, the experience was very nice. Evenings are great at the Republic of the Rio Grande during days that when a live band is featured. The courtyard has a centered quarry faced fountain that cools things up and enhances the South Texas romance.
